Cherry cordials are a bit of a family tradition for Mister Tea. They are a favorite candy for his grandfather, and early in our relationship there were several years that near Christmas we spent a decent chunk of time trying to find cherry cordials that we felt would be ‘good enough.’
Recently an idea struck the two of us. We’ve been creating a lot of dessert inspired teas, and chocolate teas have been a standard since a few months after we opened the shop. We figured it couldn’t be too hard to combine the two and create a cherry cordial tea.
Our task was made easier by the fact that we have a lovely supplier for organic dried and freezedried fruits. We were even in luck, and they had a cherry option that was already in nicely tea sized bits.
Mister Tea also had a conversation with his grandfather, and we decided to make this one of our “ChariTeas.” Each purchase of ‘Jerry Cordial’ will donate to the Roadrunner Food Bank, which is local and has a wonderful reputation.
Mister’s Tea’s grandfather has the following to say about Roadrunner:
“My charity of choice is Roadrunner Food Bank, which has been feeding New Mexicans in need for over 30 years. Headquartered in Albuquerque, they distribute over 26 million pounds of edibles a year in a state with only a bit over 2 million people. They anchor a statewide group of food banks which feed nearly 40,000 people a week, with 40% under age 18. A donation of $1 can purchase five meals! Their clients’ incomes average $900 a month, but only about 8% are homeless.”
Roadrunner is one of the places that helped Mister Tea and I were we needed the assistance, so we are happy to have a tea that will help them a bit.
