‘Ginger and Spice and Everything Nice’ falls several of our categories for tea. It is a charitea, it is a tea made to give a known flavour that follows our requirements for ingredient quality, and a tea to help you ease some of the caffeine out of your diet.
It began with a friend of mine and her family getting dire news. Brain Cancer. On the lists of things nobody wants to find out is happening to themselves or a loved one, cancer is high on the list, and brain cancer is even higher.
We discussed various medicinal options, and I did some research into a number of things. However, due to a variety of factors, making a tea specifically for that fight wasn’t something I felt I could feasibly or safely do.
So, since I still wanted to do something to help, I chose another option: a ChariTea.
I was given an example of a tea that April liked and could still drink from time to time, and I set about making something along those lines – just clean and organic and… all the other things we require of one of our teas.
It was our first experiment with making a barley tea, and I was pleasantly surprised by the results. It is warming and soothing and, in a strange way that I can’t define, reminds me of some of the places I have felt safest in my life.
For a number of reasons, this tea is being released far later than I had originally intended. There has been a lot of chaos, both for her family, and for mine, since the initial diagnosis.
However, despite the fact that the radiation and chemo went well, and the tumour no longer shows up on her MRIs – the medical expenses from the treatments and the recovery are still draining their resources.
Because of this, ‘Ginger and Spice and Everything nice,’ is a new take on our concept of our ChariTeas. In the shorter term, the donation will go to the gofundme they set up initially, after that it will go to a charity of their choosing.
April is a mother, a partner, and a creator of beautiful things for children. If the tea doesn’t tickle your fancy, please consider donating directly to help them continue to move forward.
