This tea was created to celebrate the wedding of a dear friend. If you follow our teas, or our blog posts, she (and her apocalyptically cute wee one and one of her gigantic dogs) have shown up from time to time.
When she and her partner decided that they were going to get married, I was incredibly happy for them. She’s a pretty amazing person, and she’d found a real partner.
Mister Tea and I decided we should make a tea to commemorate the decision, the event, and the couple.
Flavour choice took me a bit. The only thing I really knew regarding her partner’s test preferences was that he really liked cinnamon. (I think their wedding cake was actually based around cinnamon rolls.) However, we already had a cinnamon black, as well as a tea based on Cinnamon Rolls, and one based on Snickerdoodles. (Cinnamon is well-loved here, as well.) Eventually it occurred to me that I hadn’t actually put chocolate and cinnamon together in a tea yet, and that it would work for both of them. I quickly remedied the lack, and came up with a test version.
After a little tweaking, the tea was approved.
“The Norn Compass” comes from a particular sense of fate and timing regarding their relationship.
In her words:
“We have been in the same part of the country, and sometimes the same city, for years without knowing. He would visit friends in Colorado while I lived there, and we both lived in the same city, about ten blocks from each other, at the same time. He used to work at the mall I would go to. We even discovered that he was in Atlanta for a super cross race when I was living in Savannah. Its like we both HAD to come all the way out to BFE Arkansas to find each other.”
With our custom teas, I like to commemorate the event or the person with more than just the tea name when I can.
In this case, both of them are EMTs, so we started searching for a charity that helps first responders. Discovered that while there was a lot of understandable attention given to those on the ground doing the work for 9/11, there didn’t seem to be many more encompassing organizations.
We finally found one, F1F, and proceeds from ‘The Norn Compass’ will be donated to them.
