Cowabunga (Organic Kukicha Gunpowder Orange Turmeric Tea)

The TMNT turtle teas were a fun project.

We wanted to start with a foundation of ‘Splinter’s Brew‘ and then add things in the right colour ranges that would also taste good.

For Michaelangelo’s tea, our options were slightly limited.  Calendula tends to be more yellow than orange, and I also didn’t really see a floral tea being appropriate for him.

Orange Peel worked in my head, both for personality and ostensibly for colour, but it didn’t really pop visually as much as we wanted.

Spinning the concept of the tea round and round in my head, I decided to give adding Turmeric Root a shot.  It is one of my favorite flavours, and is a truly startling glorious orange.

I knew from prior teas that citrus and turmeric work quite well together, and had no fears about the flavour.

What we ended up with was a citrus green with the turmeric adding a general comforting warmth to the tea.  Not spicy heat, a subtle one.

As with all of our turmeric teas, most of the time the turmeric will be organic.  However, as it can be a difficult root to find in either format, sometimes we are forced to resort to conventional.

Organic Ingredients:  Kukicha, Gunpowder Green, Orange Peel, Turmeric Root

Batch Size:  2.8 oz, approximately 30-35 servings of tea

Options:  Loose Tea (Sample, Bag), Teabags (Single, Sample, Bag)

Purchasing:  Personal Shop, Etsy

  3. I initially thought that this was a tea for ninja turtles. :0)

I’m constantly looking for ways to consume turmeric. Using it as tea is the most common way. But I like the special-made teas like yours which combines different ingredients.

Honestly, I’m not fond of the taste of turmeric too much so I try to lessen or hide it with other ingredients. Your Organic Kukicha Gunpowder Orange Turmeric Tea may suit my taste very well.

    Thank you for sharing.

    • You are very much welcome. We actually have a decent array of teas with turmeric, including one that also contains chocolate. One of my goals is to have a turmeric tea for every flavour preference.
