Currants are one of my favorite fruits, and one I have wanted to add to our ingredients list for quite some time.
They were also difficult to find in a format where they could be used for tea.
We did find currants, but were sadly unable to find organic currants. However, as with every non-organic ingredient we utilize, they are just currants. No added colour or flavour or preservatives or…
Finally settled down a week or so ago to play with currants. Get a feel for how the new ingredient was going to work, and what would be possible.
I was happy to discover that they will have a taste strength comparable to my beloved elderberries, and we will be able to pair them easily with our black teas.
I’m not entirely certain where the idea of a currant coconut black came from, but it was the first tea that leapt to mind, and sounded quite tasty.
When I asked the Twitterverse what we should call it (this was one of twelve teas worked up over the course of that week, and Mister Tea and I were having tea-name-block) – “Currantly Nuts” was suggested. As we love wordplay and things that make me giggle are a happiness, we decided to keep it.
