It got added to the burgeoning tea ideas file and… sat there. For a really long time.
Recently, I decided to dust the idea off, look at the notes scribbled down from conversations, and actually create the teas.
For Gryffindor, the notes I had were: “something that would be good with alcohol, strong, bold, liquid courage.’
We began with a good black tea, and added rosehips and ginger for colour and intensity of taste. (Additionally, it would have felt wrong not to include ginger in the Gryffindor tea, for reasons of Weasleys.) Safflower for just a hint of heat, and for colour. The resultant blend is bold and intense, and has been tested with whiskey – which it melds with brilliantly.
When I posted a picture of the in progress on Twitter, I was told that it brought to mind Fred and George’s fireworks. Visually a success, and the taste is wonderful.
Organic Ingredients: Fair Trade Black Tea, Rosehips, Ginger Root, Safflower
Batch Size: 4 ounces, approximately 40-45 servings of tea
