I decided quite a bit back that we should have a chai for each of our foundational ingredients. The spice combination is a favourite of mine, and in the course of our time as Desert Sage Natural, we’ve learned that it is not uncommon for a person’s tea tastes to be laser-focused on a particular sort of tea.
Reading over the surveys for our Tea of the Month club almost always provokes new tea ideas. In this case it was a combination of the survey in question, and the label of a tea I was sent as an example of what the person liked to drink. (TotM Club is frequently given as a gift, and we ask for as much information as the person gifting it can give us, so that we can make an informed choice for the first shipment.)
The idea that came out of survey and label was a tropical chai – and knowing we are a bit shy on mates made me choose the mate as the base.
I like tropical tastes, but I rarely remember how much I like them. This is partly because before my allergy profile shifted I was allergic to a long list of wonderful things – including mango, and a smattering of other fruits from that general category.
So I was pleasantly surprised by the test batch of this tea. It was almost disturbingly good.
Once it was crafted, an idea for what geekery to attach it to came to mind almost immediately. The Agents of Shield reference was so easy I almost rejected it.
Over the course of discussions between Mister Tea and I, on Twitter, and with the inimitable Tea Naming Group, we settled on “Chai-Tea-Tea, It’s a Magical Cup.”
There were options that were shorter, and less of a mouthful, but Mister Tea’s love of wordplay won out.
