This tea came out of one of my ongoing projects. I have a plan to have a series of generally supportive to health teas along the lines of ‘Ent Draught‘ – but with different teas as the foundation.
Eventually I want to have a tea intended as a health tonic for each of our foundationals.
Genmaicha makes my inner child very happy. There’s something about the taste the rice adds to the tea that makes that part of my mind cavort around happily.
Add to that how much I enjoy the taste of many of the tonic herbs, and this tea came together easily and swiftly.
When thinking on the flavour, and what concepts and names might attach to it, I focused on how comforting the taste of this tea is. Evokes thoughts of pillow-nests and safety and trusted humans.
Which led me to the thought of a mother’s love and support. There had been a recent thread on Twitter that spoke of how often mothers are lost in the course of a protagonist’s journey, and it had provoked a lot of thinking about our relationships with our parents, and how wonderful the good versions are.
Initially I was casting about for a mother figure from one fandom or another who survived past the back-story flashbacks. However, of the ones I (and my cohorts in the Twitterverse) could think of, none of them seemed right for this particular tea.
During the brainstorming a brilliant suggestion was made – ‘Mother’s Embrace’ – and that clicked for both Mister Tea and I.
