Kaylee’s Strawberry Shiny (Strawberry Cocoa)

Kaylee's Strawberry Shiny Cocoa

We’ve gotten a trifle fixated on the concept of flavoured cocoas recently.

As is often the case when we discover a new ingredient or technique, we want to make “All The Things!”

This particular cocoa has been a taste concept since we blended ‘Browncoat’s Desperation.’  If there was one character from Firefly that we knew we could salute with a particular flavour, it was Kaylee.

We started with trying to make a tea – and discovered that freeze dried strawberries are really difficult to turn into tea-shaped-and-sized bits, and that dried strawberries are actually somehow worse.  After several attempts, we shelved the idea, and I let it simmer in the back of my head, hoping to find a solution.

Sometimes when we order supplies, we get to a point where we are just shy of not having to pay shipping, or just shy of being sent some nifty randomness.  Depending on the day, this will cause me to wander around the website and look at what else they offer.  This allowed us to find blueberry powder.  Motivated by something in between a whim and a plan, we picked some up to experiment with.

It went well.  ‘Azrael’s Snack‘ and ‘Javert’s Choice‘ came into existence in our array of options.  It also taught us that we can use fruit powders in our cocoas quite handily.  That simmering idea in the back of my head was now possible.  So, we found some organic strawberry powder, ran some experiments, and Finally managed to create a tasty chocolate strawberry loveliness.

Now for the basics:
