The idea for this tea just popped into my mind one morning while interacting with the Twitterverse.
I’ve always had a special place in my heart for Russian Caravan – and given the discovery that blending different sorts of tea together is fun and often quite tasty, it makes sense that I’d finally get around to creating another one. Rooibos is one of the foundational ingredients that I need to use more, and combining it with Caravan seemed like a potentially brilliant idea.
I tried to resist the idea (as we had a ridiculous number of teas in progress already) – but it was one that would not leave my brain, and just sat there oscillating – “Make me! You know you want to!”
Ran a test batch, liked it quite a lot, and chatting with Mister Tea while he was on the way home from work… he already had name ideas.
Originally, he suggested just ‘Redshirt,’ but that didn’t seem quite right. Between the two of us and one of my lovely tea people on Twitter, we came up with a long list of possible options for the name.
We ended up choosing “Requiem for a Redshirt” because it combines the job most likely to get you killed in original Star Trek, as well as one of the best movies I will never watch again.
The rooibos stood up surprising well to the caravan, and the two flavours mesh together handily.
