As many teas do, these days, Court of Dreaming Cats began with choosing the tea for the tea of the month club.
It was later on in 2024 and the primary tea for the month in question did not at all suit one of my subscribers.
Since the rest of the members of the standard club were getting a new and special tea, I decided that she should have one as well, and worked up a new oolong blend that I thought she would enjoy.
It was a happiness for me, as well, as it gave me the opportunity to dig into the tea journals and create one of the scribbled-down-but-not-yet-made tea ideas. Jin Xuan is a lovely tea ingredient and working with it is a special treat.
When I thought about naming the thing, a variety of options came to mind, but none of them really leapt out saying “I’m the name for this tea!” Which, while it is not a thing that always happens, is the naming method that I prefer.
Then came February of 2025.
This was the month that delivered me from Reader’s Block, with the assistance of Seanan McGuire’s October Daye series.
Three of the names that had been kicked about for 5-296 had to do with cats. With the sense of milk and shadows, it would have been surprising if there had not been at least one.
With the introduction of McGuire’s Cait Sidhe and the roads only they can travel, Court of Dreaming Cats seemed near perfect, and it won the server tea name vote quite handily.
I am very much looking forward to all the lovely concoctions I will be able to make using this one as a base.
